Biography
Korean violinist So Young Shin received her musical education at prestigious institutions such as the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow and the University of the Arts Berlin (UdK). She was one of the few international students accepted into the highly selective class of Prof. Eduard Grach, a living legend of the Russian violin school and long-time chairman of the Tchaikovsky Competition. Later, she continued her studies with Prof. Mark Gothoni in Berlin.
So Young Shin is a laureate of numerous national and international competitions, including the Bach International Competition, Salzburg International Music Competition, AVIM International Competition, and the Rising Stars Grand Prix Berlin, among others. Her international concert career has brought her to some of the world’s most renowned venues such as the Berlin Philharmonie, Konzerthaus Berlin, Carnegie Hall New York, Seoul Arts Center, and Kumho Art Hall.
She has also been featured at major festivals, including the Neue Musik Kammermusik Festival Berlin and the Essen Now Festival, and performs regularly as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestra member. Currently based in Berlin, she continues to share her artistry through performances and collaborations worldwide.
Her playing is praised for its lyrical depth, expressive tone, and refined musicianship.
